Today I want to take a minute to tell you THANK YOU! I think I feel like Lou Gehrig felt when he made the statement, “Today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of this earth.” I would replace “luckiest” with blessed because that is truly what I have been by God. The amazing thing is that when Lou Gehrig made that statement it was within 2 weeks of that startling discovery that he had a terminal disease that would later be named for the Hall of Fame baseball player. The circumstances surrounding his life were not perfect, in fact they were very far from it to say the least, but he was still able to recognize all the good things that had been and were still in his life. The reality for all of us is that we do not live in a perfect world! There’s not one person reading this blog who could say that all is exactly the way you want it to be. However, we all have much to be thankful for!
I am thankful for all that God has put into my life. The book of James tells us that every good and perfect gift comes from God. I recognize His hand at work all around me and as I ponder His goodness right now I get a little misty eyed. I can tell you that not everything is perfect in my life right now. I could list the things that I would change and they would probably take a page themselves. But I am choosing to focus not on what is wrong but on all that is right! I am choosing to believe Romans 8:28 that tells me even the things that I can’t see good in are being used for my good and the good of all who love Him and are called according to His purposes! I am choosing to think of all the blessings that surround me!
Connection Church, I want you to know that you are one of those blessings in my life. I was reminded of this in a BIG WAY on Sunday as we went out in the community to serve and be the tangible expression of Jesus’ love to those around us. To be perfectly honest I was pretty disappointed when I saw the number of people who came to serve that morning. My thought went something like, “Why do we have 700 people show up on Sunday morning to get something for themselves and only 180-200 when we are giving something to others!” I had already decided that the next message was going to be a WHOPPER! I really had to check my heart and make sure it was in the right place. I received a couple of text from folks in the church talking about what God was doing in people’s lives through serving and God began to open my eyes. That night as I lay in bed I began to think through the faces that I saw that morning. I saw all the people that were there on their day off to serve others. It was then that I realized, yet again, just how blessed I am!
I truly believe that I have the opportunity to pastor the greatest church on the face of the planet with the greatest people there are. For those of you who are running with the vision of Connection Church and are laying your life down to Connect Unbelievers to God and Believers to Each Other I want you to know that I will storm the gates of Hell with you! I am with you heart and soul! You have blessed my life beyond measure! Thank you…not just for what you do…but most importantly for WHO YOU ARE! I say it again…THANK YOU!
I want to leave you with this encouragement. Today if you find yourself struggling with life and the hand you have been dealt I would encourage you to look to Jesus and the blood stained cross that screams of God’s infinite goodness. Recognize that even though you may not understand all that is going on, and you may even be angry with God about it, that the cross is the pinnacle of God’s goodness and greatness that rises far above all of man’s calamity! It is proof of His love for us and the true nature of His character! Rejoice in the goodness of God and look for the good things He has put into your life! My heart tells me that you will soon feel like the most blessed person “on the face of this earth”!
Heart and Soul!
