Skittles and the Church
Hey Connection!!
Just a quick thought I want to share with you this week! During my “quiet time” with God a couple of days ago I came across this scripture in Acts 9:31:
“Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace and was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.”
As I read that verse the part that jumped out at me was “…the church…enjoyed a time of peace and was strengthened.” I believe that what God was speaking to my heart is that all churches go through different seasons of ministry and growth. As I reflected further on it I really believe that we are in a specific season of growing in maturity. As I look at all of the people who are being moved to take their “Next Steps” in serving, as Connectors, and discipleship, by getting into Connect Groups, (Not to mention salvation and baptism!!) I truly believe God is broadening our foundation and shoring it up so that it can support the full weight of what He desires to do!
I saw someone use an illustration once in which they poured Skittles on a table. They were able to pour them out for a while and none of them fell on the floor. It wasn’t long before the table was full and it could not hold any more Skittles. The only way to put more Skittles on the table was to increase the surface area of the table by making it bigger! As we grow in maturity in Christ and with one another God expands the surface area of our church so that we are able to support more and more people!
I truly believe that God is going to begin putting it on some of your hearts to step up and lead whether it is as a Connector, Connect Group Leader, as the spiritual leader of your home, or as the leader of revival in your workplace! (YES…God can and will do that!!) For others He is going to move you to take your “Next Step” by getting in a Connect Group! Some will be moved to trust God in their finances as they begin tithing and honoring God with their money! (Let’s be honest…nothing test our faith like trusting God with our money! That’s why Jesus taught that it would be the number one competitor for our hearts! We need to make sure that invisible line from our hearts to our wallets remains cut so that our faith remains in our provider and not what we can provide! We can only have one master…we can’t serve both God and money! OK…that was completely a mini sermon or rabbit trail…but someone needed to hear it! J ) I hope all of us will be moved to hit our knees in desperation for God to move in us so that He can move through us!
I want to encourage each of you to continue to press hard into God! Go after Him with everything that you have! God IS using you to make an eternal difference in this community! From parking to preaching we are proclaiming ONE message! That is the message of Jesus!
