Here are a few thoughts I wanted to share with you from this past Sunday…
First of all…I am already loving this new series I AM. I love the fact that we are spending 7 weeks looking at who Jesus tells us He is and what that means for our life! I mentioned this Sunday but would like to reiterate that I believe we, as a church, are going into a season in which God is broadening our foundation to support more of what He wants to do. It’s crucial that we lay the only true foundation…JESUS! That is what we will be doing over the next 6 weeks!
Second…I am especially excited about the next two messages in this series which deal with Jesus’ statements “I am the light of the world” and “I am the gate”! These are great messages for people who have heard of Jesus and maybe even know about Jesus but don’t know Jesus! One of the greatest challenges we face as a church is tearing down the cultural ideas of who Jesus is and establishing who He really is! These messages will be great for people who have been disillusioned by church! Step out and invite someone!
Third…I just want to remind you of a few thoughts from Sunday’s message. Remember that satisfying temporary appetites never satisfies eternal longings! God has given us a longing for more that will never be satisfied by anything other than Jesus…the bread of life! If we are honest we have all found that enough is never enough! This is even true with our “Christian” life if we don’t come to Christ with the right motives, the right goal, and the right idea of how we attain “this bread”. Our motive should be Jesus not ourselves! Our goal should be Jesus not what He can give us! (Remember…He is not the bread giver He is the bread!) We attain “this bread” by believing in and abiding in Jesus! It’s awesome to think about how our lives would be different if we viewed Jesus as the end and not the means to an end! We would discover that our temporary appetites aren’t nearly as dominating when our eternal longing is satisfied by Jesus!
Before I go I wanted to share one more thing that I though was pretty cool. A few months ago I asked everyone to be praying that we would baptize over 100 people by the end of the year. I honestly didn’t know if that would happen but I felt that the Lord put it on my heart so I asked! After the baptisms 2 Sundays ago we have baptized 102 people in 2011 and it’s only October!! God is so amazing! I CAN NOT WAIT to see what He does next!
Don’t forget the worship night this Sunday at 6 PM (@ SHS) and remember to pray…invest…invite…encourage those who are far from God!
