God’s Exclamation Point!
Over the last few weeks God has really been speaking to my heart about where I am personally and where the church is going. It has been a challenging look inside my own life that has been both uncomfortable and, at times, exhilarating. It has also been a time of revisiting the vision of Connection and why it was started in the first place. God has made me take a deep look within to make sure we are still running on the same tracks God set us on in November of 2008!
All that God had been writing on my heart recently was brought to a great climax this past Sunday morning. I would say He put an exclamation point on it all! For those who attend our services you know that we seldom have any type of technical issues. It is really an indication of the hard work and talent that our Connectors in that area provide each week! (Thank You!) However, this week something happened that has not happened the entire time we have been meeting at SHS. Our entire sound system shut down!
In an instant, as we transitioned between the first and second song, everything went off! For a split second I had that sinking feeling that goes something like, “NOOOOOOOO!” You’ve probably had that before! But almost as quickly as the sound system went down God brought back to mind a similar situation that happened when we were about a year old and were meeting in the old blue building behind Burger King.
One morning during worship the speakers literally sounded like they blew up! We have no idea why it happened and had no idea how to keep it from happening again! The only thing I knew to do was go up on stage and talk about something! I think we ended up doing some spontaneous testimonies or something. (Those were always a little awkward to me!!) But we did survive and the service went on. We actually NEVER had that problem again as long as we were in that building.
As the sound system went down this past Sunday I knew what the Lord was telling me. Now I don’t want you to think that I heard some audible Charlton Heston voice from Heaven! If I had I would have been under the seat, not walking on stage! I am also not a pastor that says, “God said” very much because “the God card” is so often abused and too often thrown around flippantly not realizing the responsibility that comes with that claim! But I know that God clearly impressed upon my heart ONE thing in that moment!
“Make sure you haven’t abandoned the place you (the church) were the last time this happened!”
Obviously this wasn’t referring to where we are physically but where our focus is and how closely we are adhering to the vision God has given us. Amazingly this all took place on the Sunday that we were going through the entire vision of Connection Church! Amazingly we don’t know why it happened or how to keep it from happening again! Amazingly as soon as I stepped off stage and jokingly said, “Ok speakers work” they came back on! BUT…is it so amazing when we consider how amazing our God really is!
I don’t say all this to sound “spooky spiritual”! That is not how I operate! I say all this to say, “God, I heard you loud and clear! We will stay on OUR tracks and do what you called us to do!”
Connection, I want to tell you that there are incredible things ahead! Things that only God can do! If we are faithful to run OUR race, not someone else’s…to be who God created us to be, not imitators of what has already been done or is being done…to simply listen to the heart of God and move in rhythm with it…We WILL fulfill every ounce of potential we have been entrusted with, we WILL see and incredible Kingdom impact, and we WILL see Jesus exalted and glorified in our community!
P.S. – Get someone to church this week who needs to hear the Good News of the Gospel! And…Please be praying for salvations this Sunday!!
