Effective, Efficient, and Excellent!
If you missed the first two blogs about why Connection Church focuses so intently on only 4 areas of ministry here’s a chance to catch up on the first and second blog. Today I want to look at the second reason we MUST remain focused on a few things so that we can do God things…
I would be willing to bet that most people today find themselves feeling a little bit overwhelmed at times! In fact, you may feel overwhelmed most of the time! Life is so busy! The one thing that bothers me the most about the business of life and that gets me overwhelmed at times is the feeling that I don’t have enough time to do things at a high level! I can’t do them with effectiveness, efficiency, and excellence. Maybe I’m the only one who feels this way but there are times that I feel like I don’t have enough time to be a good husband, father, son, pastor, friend, little league coach, ninja, etc. etc.! (OK I made the ninja part up! Just seeing if you were paying attention.) But it’s still incredibly frustrating!
Today I’d like to offer a little insight into this feeling of being overwhelmed. The reason we feel like we don’t have enough time to do all of the things on our plate with effectiveness, efficiency, and excellence is because WE DON’T! IT’S NOT THERE! There are 24 hours in a day and you have to sleep a few of them! There is only so much time, so much energy, and so many resources! We just can’t do everything and do it at a high level!
So…What do we do? There’s really only one thing that we can do. Narrow our focus to the few things that are the most important and make sure we do them effectively, efficiently, and with excellence. Basically, we have to get our priorities right and by getting them right I mean in line with God’s priorities for our lives. We must see that the vision of God’s priorities for us is Him (Which is really not a priority He should encompass all other priorities), our spouse, our children/family, work, recreation and so forth. In realizing the most important things we are able to maximize our effectiveness, efficiency, and excellence by focusing the bulk of our attention on them and by doing this minimize the feeling of being overwhelmed and inadequate. Why? We know we are taking care of the things that God has called us, first and foremost, to steward well.
This same line of thinking must dominate the structure and activity of the church. WE CANNOT do everything and do it with effectiveness, efficiency, and excellence! When we try we end up scattered, burned out, and off target with the vision God has given us. At Connection we ARE going to focus on four things: Sunday Morning Worship Experience, Students (Konnection Kids/212), Connect Groups, and Missions. These are the things that God has called us to steward and steward well! I can PROMISE you that the more faithful we are with the few things God has given us to do the more He will trust us with in regards to His people! If we are able to be trusted with a few then He knows He can trust us with many!
Our goal is not to do everything but to do the few things that God has given us to do to the best of our ability and under the power of the Holy Spirit. I believe it was Andy Stanley who said it first, “More is less and less is more.” We WILL accomplish more for the Kingdom by doing things well and with greater intensity than trying to do everything and doing it poorly!
I’m including the diagram from the first blog in this series of blogs so you can glance over it again.

I LOVE OUR CHURCH!! SO READY FOR SUNDAY!
Don’t forget this week we are looking at, what is in our day, the most controversial statement that Jesus ever made! IT’S GOING TO BE FUN!
Invite someone you’ve invested in and let’s pray like crazy that this Sunday people come to know Jesus as the life giver that He is!
