Don’t Take It For Granted!!
My family and I had the opportunity to spend the last few days in the mountains. It was really refreshing and, will no cell or internet service, there was ample time to reflect. My thoughts continued to be directed at how blessed I am and how much I truly have to be thankful for! I was reminded of a few things that I would like to share with you.
First…I don’t want to take for granted the opportunity I have to be in relationship with the God of the UNIVERSE! As I said on Sunday…I don’t want to forget where He brought me from and how He saved me! I NEVER want to take for granted that His presence is with me and in me and that I can enjoy Him for eternity! AMAZING!
Second…my family is my greatest ministry! Our spouses and children are a great gift that God has given us and we are entrusted to steward them well! If at the end of my life I can say that my wife was loved with the love of Christ and that my children are living for God, I will have been successful. We cannot take for granted the great opportunity and responsibility that God has given us with those closest to us! Nor can we say we love someone and withhold the love of Christ from them!
Third…the incredible opportunity we have as the church! The church IS God’s plan for renewing the face of the earth and we ARE the carriers of the greatest news ever heard; our holy and perfect God has made a way for imperfect people to have a relationship with Him! Through Jesus our debt for sin was paid, the punishment we deserve was taken, and right standing with God that we didn’t deserve was given! We CAN NOT take the opportunity to share this GREAT news with the world for granted!
Fourth…and this is specifically and especially to Connection Church, the local body of believers that God has called me to serve and do life with…DON’T TAKE FOR GRANTED WHAT WE ARE BEING ALLOWED TO TAKE PART IN! It would be easy for us to take for granted salvations, baptisms, and people’s lives changing. I REALLY want you to understand three things about this:
- It’s not normal! Those of us who’ve been around church for a while know that what we have been blessed to be a part of doesn’t just happen!
- It’s not anything we’ve done! In fact, I would say God has used us in spite of us! There is no formula…there is no 7 steps…it cannot be achieved through leadership alone…it is not based on the ability of any man…and it cannot be “willed” to happen! Only God changes lives and we have simply been allowed to be a part of His process…HUMBLING!
- Enjoy the journey! We often get so caught up in where we are going that we miss the joy of the journey! We don’t need to miss ONE opportunity to celebrate all that God is doing in our lives! I am beyond EXCITED about where we are headed together and CAN NOT wait to see what God does next!
Connection…GOD IS USING YOU TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF PEOPLE AROUND YOU! We saw Jesus take SIX more people (23 since January 1st) from death to life on Sunday! I CAN NOT get that off my mind!! To be quite honest…I DON’T WANT TO!! If that doesn’t get you excited you’d better check your pulse!! We don’t tell you this to put up some type of spiritual scoreboard! It is simply a celebration of what God is doing in our midst. I also realize that when you are close to the action it is often hard to see the impact you are making. I want all of you who are sold out and bought into God’s vision for Connecting Unbelievers to God and Believers to Each Other to know that you are being used by God to impact those around you! Keep INVESTING…INVITING…SERVING…AND ENCOURAGING!
